Sensitivity Reading

Sensitivity reading is reviewing a book with regard to the reader’s own lived experience. It is not about making sure your book won’t offend anyone, but more so about ensuring that you portray the lived experience of people who differ from you demographically in a way that is as authentic and accurate as possible. In the same way you might get onto an FBI watchlist for your search history to provide accuracy on varying styles of unaliving someone in the swamps of Florida, this service provides a primary source of accuracy for more personal or difficult-to-research subject matter.

I do not use generative AI and I will not edit generative AI text. If you are looking for someone to edit the results of your prompts, I am not your editor.

Pay Up!

My process and pay structure is as follows:

1. I will provide a free sample edit and the quote of the total cost of service.

2. If terms are agreeable, client will provide 50% of total payment upfront with the files.

3. Client will provide the remaining 50% within 48 hours of final work turned in.

Upfront payment will earn you priority in terms of booking my services again and please don't make me chase you for the final payment.

No WIPs

I want to offer you comprehensive and complete editing and advice. As such, I will require the entire book be complete before I begin working on it.

(Articles/blog posts/etc. are not included.)

For all services except sensitivity reading, I do a free, no obligation test edit of a sample. I will take about 2,000 words from the middle of your book before I provide the final quote. Everyone, including myself, pays more attention to the beginning and end of their book, so the middle is much more indicative of the real scope of editing your project needs!

No Fanfiction (I'm sorry!)

Tragically, I do not professionally edit fanfic. (I'm disappointed, too!) If you are working in an established franchise or with somebody else’s IP, I will have you sign a Hold Harmless/ Indemnification Agreement stating that you have the right to use the work. This includes adaptations of any kind that are not within the public domain.
